It's not about being beautiful. (It helps.) It's not about cool technology. (It helps too!) It is about creating an amazing user experience. If you want users to be passionate about your product, you need to be passionate about designing it for them. Creating a great experience isn't that hard – but it does take thought and effort. Emmy®-Award Winner Margret Schmidt, Chief Design Officer for TiVo, will share her passion for creating a great user experience, and what you need to be doing during the design, development, and release of your product to make sure your users will love and evangelize it.
Margret Schmidt is TiVo's Chief Design Officer, and Vice President of Design & Engineering. She is responsible for the design and development of all domestic and international TiVo products, including DVR and set-top box software, mobile and web apps, and the TiVo Service. Margret has been with TiVo since 2001.Margret holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley. She has a 2006 Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Television, and was named one of the Most Powerful Women in Cable (Top Women in CableTech list) in 2010, 2011, and 2012 by CableFAX Magazine. She is a 2013 YWCA Silicon Valley Tribute to Women Honoree, and one of Silicon Valley Business Journal's Women of Influence 2013. As Director, Game Development at Nickelodeon, Nate will share his experience and knowledge of HTML5 and cross platform game development. His session will cover HTML5 game development, game distribution, business models and strategies for gaming content.
Nate Altschul is currently the Director of Game Development at Nickelodeon, where he is responsible for the development of 100+ games annually across a variety of platforms. A game industry veteran, he has been developing casual games, multiplayer games (MMO), and virtual worlds for over 15 years. His award-winning work spans past clients that include Nike, Leapfrog, MLB, Neopets, PBS, Wrigley, and Discovery Channel. And games developed at Nickelodeon games (such as, PetPet Park and Nicktropolis) won 4 Webby Awards and 2 Parents’ Choice Awards. He currently has 2 patents pending for game-related inventions. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he has lived in New York City since 2004, where he founded the HTML5 Games Group and the Cross-Platform Games Group.
