Bactrim lacks the ability to treat sinus infections
21 May 2012 USA: According to the latest medical intervention, Bactrim; the antibiotic with a wide range of beneficial effects was found to lack the potential of curing your sinus infection. The investigation was conceded by the Washington University School of Medicine, U.S.A and it proved that the effects of the medication were same as that of an inactive placebo.
This came as a big surprise to medical professionals and patients as till date it was recommended for faster recovery from sinus and also lower the symptoms associated with it more efficiently. The study included a 10-day course of Bactrim and placebo in patients suffering with sinus and found that no significant change was observed in the relief of its symptoms.
Dr Jane M Garbutt, research associate professor of medicine of the same university said in her interview that the main reason for carrying out this research was the overuse of Bactrim as a primary remedial option. She also shed light on the efforts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in enhancing and persuading people to use antibiotics with more caution. She also said that this will prove as a milestone in clinical science and people will be able to digest the truth that Bactrim is not effective against acute sinus infection with time.
Dr Jay F Piccirillo, professor of Otolaryngology claimed that antibiotics are not even necessary to treat infections of the sinus and that they can be treated easily on their own. Sinusitis is one of the most common health ailments of U.S and one in every 5 patients use antibiotics mostly Bactrim to cure their condition.
Though it has proven that antibiotics are not the accurate medications for relieving your sinus complications but the question does not stop there as people want to about the effective therapeutic measures to deal with this debilitating condition. This question is remaining unanswered by the pioneers of the research and they claim that research regarding the apt medication is still in its initial stages.
