Canada's food safety system front and centre at BC Foodservice Expo breakfast

VANCOUVER, Jan. 15, 2013, 2013 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- The safety of Canada's food supply from farms to consumers is one of the hot topics that restaurateurs will discuss at this year's Trends Breakfast at the BC Foodservice Expo, Jan. 28 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

The Farm to Fork food safety discussion will give restaurant owners and chefs the chance to learn more about what producers, distributors and regulators are doing to ensure that food from around the world arrives safely on restaurant premises. It's an especially relevant topic following recent food recalls and new federal food safety legislation.

Speakers: -- Jeff Howard, National Quality Assurance Manager for Gordon Food Service -- Theresa Iuliano, Executive Director, Strategic Policy and International Affairs Directorate, Policy and Programs Branch, for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency The breakfast event also includes insights from leading market researchers NPD Group. Robert Carter, NPD's Executive Director, will share industry and consumer trends that restaurants can use to guide the way they do business in 2013.

Breakfast tickets are $69 + HST. Current members of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association (CRFA) pay only $49. Proceeds from this year's breakfast will go to Culinary Team Canada to help members compete at the Salon Culinaire Mondial in Switzerland.
