Reappointment to Telefilm Canada

GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 8, 2013, 2013 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the reappointment of Carolle Brabant as Executive Director of Telefilm Canada for a term of three years.

"I am very pleased to have a person of Carolle Brabant's calibre leading Telefilm Canada," said Minister Moore. "Her expertise, vision, and leadership in the audiovisual industry have been rightfully applauded on numerous occasions, both in Canada and abroad." Ms. Brabant was first appointed as Executive Director of Telefilm Canada for a three-year term on March 15, 2010. As a veteran of Telefilm Canada's senior management for more than 20years, Ms. Brabant has headed up its finance, information technology, human resources, and administration sectors.

Carolle Brabant is the recipient of a number of awards, including most recently the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada (Sun Life Financial Arts & Communications Award); the Prix des femmes d'affaires du Québec (in the Executive or Professional, Public or Parapublic Organization category); and the 2012 Canadian Women in Communications Leadership Excellence Award (in the Trailblazer Category). In 2011, she was recognized by The Hollywood Reporter as one of "13 Female Power-Players Who Rule the World." Ms. Brabant holds a Master of Business Administration from the École des hautes études commerciales in Montréal and a Bachelor of Accounting degree from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi.

As the federal cultural agency devoted to the development and promotion of the Canadian audiovisual industry, Telefilm Canada is primarily concerned with the funding of original, diverse, and high-quality productions that reflect Canada's linguistic duality and cultural diversity. Telefilm Canada also works to ensure the broadest possible dissemination of Canadian productions at home and abroad, and seeks to be a leading promoter of a Canadian audiovisual industry of international calibre. Telefilm Canada administers co-production agreements on behalf of the government that enable Canadian producers and their foreign counterparts to pool their creative, artistic, technical, and financial resources.
