Honolulu Most Expensive Destination to Stay This Presidents' Day Weekend, Survey Shows

HONOLULU, Feb. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Honolulu is the USA's most expensive destination this upcoming Presidents' Day weekend, based on the cost of its lodging. This finding was uncovered by the latest survey conducted by CheapHotels.org. The survey compared U.S. destinations according to their hotels rates for the period spanning February 15 to February 18 (Presidents' Day).

In Honolulu, Hawaii, travelers will have to spend at least $294 per night for a well-located 3-star hotel room. That's slightly more expensive than Florida's Fort Myers Beach and Key West, where the cheapest available hotel rooms cost $289 and $287, respectively.

Hawaii is a costly Presidents' Day vacation spot all around, though. Maui Island ranks fourth most expensive at a nightly rate of $279, and the Big Island rounds out the top 10 rankings with an overnight rate of $239. Among the highest-priced destinations, three ski resorts in Colorado also made the list. The most expensive of these is Aspen, where visitors will have to spend $272 per night for the cheapest available hotel room.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in the United States for this year's Presidents' Day weekend. The prices shown are based on the daily rate for each destination's cheapest available double room (minimum 3-star hotel) for the time period of February 15 through 18.
