Nominations open for Green Ribbon Awards

Feb 14, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Environment Minister Amy Adams has today opened nominations for the 2013 Green Ribbon Awards, which honour the work of people, communities and businesses in protecting and improving the environment.

"Tackling environmental issues is not easy. It takes initiative and dedication, and the awards pay tribute to the incredible work being undertaken all over New Zealand to address the environmental challenges we face," Ms Adams says.

"Nominations should show how work has provided significant environmental benefits, is innovative, goes the extra distance and has raised awareness of environmental issues." The categories in this year's awards are: - Protecting our biodiversity - Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions - Caring for our water - Minimising our waste - Protecting our coasts and oceans - Communication and education - Community leadership - Small business leadership - Large business leadership - Public sector leadership - Green economy Winners of the Green Ribbon Awards will be announced on World Environment Day on June 5.
