BRIEF: Pegula Ice Arena to open on Oct. 11

Feb 14, 2013 (Centre Daily Times (State College - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- UNIVERSITY PARK -- Pegula Ice Arena, the state-of-the-art, $90 million facility that will serve as the home to Penn State hockey, will host its first game on Friday, Oct. 11 when the Penn State men's hockey team opens next season against Army.

The Friday night contest, which will be the weekend's lone game, will take place during Penn State's annual football homecoming weekend.

The 2013-14 campaign will mark a historic venture for the Nittany Lions as they will also begin competition in the Big Ten with traditional powers Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin. Each Big Ten opponent will travel to Happy Valley for two games apiece for a total of 10 games. Penn State will also host several non-conference matchups.

Season ticket deposits for the 2013-14 season are being accepted and can be placed by calling 1-800-NITTANY Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. or by visiting the Bryce Jordan Center Athletic Ticket Office weekdays from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For more information about season tickets, visit www.gopsusports.com/tickets/m-hockey-tickets.html.
