Startup tackles geo-illiteracy in Canada by combining wall maps with augmented reality technology.
TORONTO, Feb. 14, 2013, 2013 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
FunMapsForKids.com - Young Canadian family inspired by world travels and their
preschooler, decides to create the first wall world map for kids made
interactive with AR technology.
Customers use Layar's free mobile application on smart devices to explore educational digital
content when scanning the map.
The founders were inspired to start this endeavour after taking an
around-the-world trip with their 3-year last year. During their travels
they observed Niko's fascination with animals native to each country
and curiosity about the interesting landmarks they visited. They
realized there was an opportunity to help children explore cultures and
places in a similar way. After their return home last summer, the idea
of making an interactive world map for kids came to fruition."Our aim is to inspire children to learn geography in fun and exciting
ways. We want to offer more than just maps; we want to offer
interactive educational tools."
