The HTML5 markup language introduces new features for making games, such as the canvas, video and audio elements. When HTML5 is combined with the other exciting Web technologies that make up the Open Web Platform, plugin-free gaming can be taken to a whole new level. HTML5 is set to become the foundation of the upcoming mobile gaming era. Although still in development, HTML5 has been progressing much faster than previously anticipated.
Brightcove has a few things to say about HTML5, and it'll be saying it at DevCon 5. The vice president of Brightcove, Ashley Streb, will be Thursday's keynote speaker at DevCon 5 HTML5 & Mobile App Developers conference in San Francisco, discussing how Brightcove's App Cloud platform is made for the next wave of mobile app development.
Earlier in November, Jaspersoft released version five of its reporting and analytics solution, which is said to bring significantly improved data analysis capabilities. A major part of this release is the software's new visualization engine, which eschews Adobe Flash-based engine in favor of one built using HTML5.
When it comes to technological developments, one of the biggest of 2012 is likely going to have to go to HTML5, a programming language that has brought a lot of new possibilities into the game. LG, meanwhile, has recently taken this programming language to its own next level by adding support for it to its Pro Centric IPTV platform.
GREE International, a mobile social gaming company in Japan, recently stated it is adding HTML5 compatibility to its social gaming platform. With that announcement came speculation that the company could help propel HTML5-based gaming further forward as the GREE platform overcomes the two major hurdles HTML5 games have yet to fully clear: distribution and discovery.
HTML5 certainly has gotten a lot of attention, but it's often still not ready to be used for enterprises, according to recent reports from industry watchers.
