Fujitsu Working on HTML Platform for Employee Phones Securely Used in Workplace

Bring Your Own Devices to work continues to be an important new trend in the workplace for employees. In response to the increased use of personal smartphones at business settings, Fujitsu (News - Alert) is working on an HTML platform that improves security in enterprise settings.

The new platform is designed to give employees access to enterprise IT without any breaks in confidentiality, the company said.

Fujitsu is expected to launch the platform during 2013.

The solution provides an option on whether the phone works in a home mode or workplace mode. When the employee is at the workplace, s/he has access to workplace data via the cloud. The apps show up on the phone’s screen.

The workplace apps stop showing up when employees are not in the business location, and records of them are not kept via temporary files or cookies. The phone’s camera can also be disabled at the worksite to improve security.

“The phone app senses whether it's in the workplace or not and therefore whether it has access to corporate data,” according to a report from IDG News. “The cloud apps are delivered over an encrypted connection to the handset, which runs them inside a secure application environment on the phone.”

Fujitsu Laboratories’ Kazuaki Nimura recently showed off the technology on iPhone (News - Alert) and Android operating system telephones, according to Tech Hive. The Android (News - Alert) OS could reportedly be turned on by a Wi-Fi network or through near field communication.

There are other new tech improvements for Fujitsu with the company recently being selected for the TrueTouch Gen4 touchscreen from Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (News - Alert) It is used in the touchscreen with the Arrows V F-04E smartphone from NTT DOCOMO.

“The combination of Fujitsu's leading-edge features and Cypress's robust touchscreen solutions continues to result in best-in-class smartphones,” Cathal Phelan, executive vice president of the Consumer and Computation Division at Cypress, said in a recent statement carried by TMCnet. “The solid relationship that Cypress has with Fujitsu is a testament to the industry-leading flexibility, feature set and performance of our TrueTouch touchscreen solution.”
