Two of the biggest growing technologies today seem to be those that work in the cloud and those that are powered or incorporate the use of HTML5. Virtual Desktop Integration (VDI) has gotten quite a few new users over the last few years thanks to all the things users can do with the software. Of course, most of those VDIs use HTML5, so that virtual desktops can be used on any number of different devices. Now, it appears the cloud will be used in a slightly different way thanks to Itsmy. The Germany- based HTML5 cloud gaming company has found a way to bring some of those games to the Smart TV.
This particular service will begin offering about 20 different games that users can access by going to itsmy.tv through the browser included on Smart TVs. Once the user goes to this browser, the service will automatically determine what kind of Smart TV is being used and adapt the service to the brand and type of television.
In order to control the games, users will use either their television’s remote controller, or a special app that game developers might come up with that can be used on a smartphone or mobile device. While the games are not exactly at the level of console games, the company has made it possible to play on any Smart TV thanks to using HTML5 instead of flash. The company has also said that it would be releasing an API by the end of the year. This means that sooner or later there will be developers who will be making different games for the service. Right now the games are along the lines of chess, checkers, solitaire and a few “quick reflex” games.
If Itsmy can actually catch on, it seems as though this sort of format, an outside gaming company using the cloud and HTML5, might be something that could catch on for Smart TV users.
