HTML5, the latest revision of the hypertext markup language (HTML), builds on the previous versions to combine many features and specifications from software products like Web browsers. The latest version is also being developed to add support for the latest multimedia applications.
In a recent development in HTML5-based gaming market, itsmy, a Munich based provider of html5 gaming solutions, announced support of multi-controller game play of all social and casual titles within the itsmy game cloud.
The games are developed on cross- device platform, meaning a player with tablet and touchscreen can play the game live against another player using Smart TV and remote control and also a third player 3 who is on PC using keyboard, mouse or joystick.
“Cross-device gaming is nothing without a perfectly implemented cross game controller strategy. And our itsmy HTML5 games platform now supports all available control devices to fulfill today’s gamers wishes,” said Antonio Vince Staybl, CEO at itsmy.
itsmy games are based on standard HTML5 and JavaScript, so they are user friendly and easy to play. Users need not install any additional software – all they need is a compatible browser.
The company anticipates that future gaming will focus on smart TV screens, so it is planning to offer full HTML5 Joystick support for online browsers, STBoxes and Smart TVs.
HTML5 has a lot to do with user interfaces, says Marc Grabanski of MJG International, a company that focuses on building Web-based software with clean interfaces that can run on any device.
According to Grabanski, user interface (UI) is becoming increasingly important in the development world, to the point where it is changing what developers need to know, and how companies staff their development departments.
In another recent HTML 5 focused development in the industry Brightcove, an online video solutions provider, has acquired Zencoder, a provider of HTML5 video for a wide array of websites. Brightcove acquired Zencoder for $30 million, and the combination of Brightcove and Zencoder looks to provide some impressive moves in online video.
