Telanav, a provider of personalized navigation, has released a browser-based HTML5 voice-guided GPS navigation for Windows and Android (News – Alert) phones. Called Scout for Apps, this new service, which was originally iOS only, provides turn-by-turn GPS navigation. It is the first of its kind.
With the launch of this service, developers will be able to embed the navigation into their own apps while keeping the familiar look, branding and uniform design that their customers are used to.
Telenav also launched a widget for websites that is usable by anyone who wishes to incorporate it into their website. This button, called the Scout Drive Button, is free and easy-to-use, meaning that websites who utilize it do not need to have any expertise to be able to code the widget. In order to use the Scout Drive Button users simply need to click the button on their desktop browser and send the link to their mobile phones. Doing so will directly launch the navigation system, making it easier for users since they do not need to type the web address for a navigation map into their devices.
The Scout for Apps navigation was available on iPhones in March, but thanks to this latest release, Android and Windows users can now enjoy it as well.
“Mobile users have sent us feedback that they have switched to our partner apps due to the addition of free navigation” stated Shannph Wong, chief architect at Telenav. “Now that we have developed the service to work on Android and Windows phone devices, we expect this trend to continue.”
Scout for Apps provides developers with a simple way to offer consumers voice-guided, turn-by-turn GPS navigation for free, directly from their website or application. All developers need to do is add one line of code. Scout for Apps is perfect for shopping, social and travel apps.
