Developers building solutions for mobile and desktop environments using HTML5 are about to get a boost to their operations. The Sencha Complete Team, recently announced by Sencha, an HTML5 tools vendor, bundles an Eclipse plug-in with existing tools, data connectors and a desktop application packager.
The resulting solution simplifies the process for developers working in HTML5, as highlighted in this InfoWorld report.
According to Sencha, developers can use the Sencha Complete Team to build applications using a single code base and Web technologies before packaging them into a solution that will run on multiple devices, including Windows PCs, Google Android devices, Apple’s (News
– Alert) iPad and iPhone, and OS X.
Sencha’s existing Ext JS JavaScript framework is featured in the suite, along with the company’s Touch mobile Web application framework. The Sencha Architect visual development application designed for HTML5 is also included. And, to improve the Ext JS Developer productivity with features such as error correction and code completion, the Sencha Eclipse Plug-in for Ext JS is in place. Team collaboration is also supported in the solution.
RedMonk analyst, Stephen O’Grady, told InfoWorld that the support for Eclipse in particular is expected to be popular. It continues to serve as the default development environment for a variety of enterprises throughout the global marketplace. Likewise, the composing of services-enabled applications is expected to become more efficient with the added connectors.
With SOAP and AMF supported data connectors, connectivity to data sources is enabled when building applications using JavaScript. These connectors are then used by developers seeking to eliminate the time-consuming task of hand-writing binary data transformation or XML parsing code.
Google’s (News
– Alert) Chrome desktop browser open source technology serves as the foundation for the Sencha Desktop Packager. This solution allows applications to be packaged in a runtime with access to the native API, as well as the performance of the full desktop applications. Sencha CEO, Michael Mullany says the Desktop Packager will allow the deployment of the native application to enable an end run around the enterprise browser.
As a result of the Desktop Packager, corporate developers can shed the standard limitations inherent in their companies’ browsers. It also complements the Sencha Mobile Packager to allow Web applications to be run as native Android (News – Alert) or iOS applications. Both the Desktop Packager and the Mobile Packager are included in the Sencha Complete Team.
While Sencha is certainly focused on improving options for developers focused on HTML5, other companies are getting in the game to claim their share. TMC’s (News – Alert) HTML5 Report recently highlighted that Maxava’s MaxView has been redefined through the powers of HTML5. The rewrite is part of a move to better the turnaround on the product and will allow for real-time management of functions within the IBM (News
– Alert) i server.
