Bring your own device (BYOD), a business policy many companies are embracing today, allowing employees to use their own mobile devices for business purposes. BYOD has its drawbacks, however.
Many companies are holding back on fully deploying BYOD. One primary concern is security, but many companies simply aren’t prepared to make the major IT investments necessary to deploy apps to mobile.
Cloud-based enterprise solutions provider Salesforce.com (News
– Alert) plans to change this with the introduction of the market version of Beta for a year; this is its wide release. Its new solution, Touch, will essentially bring Salesforce to any mobile device.
Touch is built on HTML5 technology, so it’s easy to add Salesforce to any mobile tablet or handset, allowing companies to focus on growing sales without having to expend energy on building and maintaining infrastructure.
Users can extend their success and take advantage of HTML5 to build custom mobile apps on the Touch platform.
Touch basically enables mobile employees of companies using Salesforce to enter, access and collaborate with data in Salesforce via a variety of devices, including iPhone (News – Alert), iPad and Android machines. Sales reps can log follow-up action items after a meeting, uncover information to prepare for an important presentation, or get an approval needed to move a deal forward via the app, according to TechCrunch.
Salesforce says it would like to see the more than 800,000 registered Salesforce developers to adopt Touch to make their own custom mobile apps, according to Adam Seligman, vice-president of developer relations at Salesforce.
“We’re off to the races and now the developer community is unleashed to write HTML5 and native apps,” he said.
Analysts have indicated that the goal of Salesforce with the launch of Touch was to compete with Adobe Inc. and Microsoft (News
– Alert) Corp. in serving developers as a multi-platform environment, reported IT World Canada.
