HTML5, the latest version of hypertext markup language, includes a whole new set of features, but most importantly it supports latest multimedia while still making sure that it is decipherable by humans and understood by computers and devices.
In a significant announcement in the HTML5-based mobile application development segment, Thirdpresence, a cloud-based video publishing service, formed partnership with appMobi (News – Alert), which supports mobile app development and deployment using HTML5, to bring easy video publishing to HTML5 mobile developers.
appMobi’s technology allows mobile app developers to support HTML5 and native app platforms with just one code base, and to deploy and service their apps on multiple platforms, including the open Web.
The partnership integrates Thirdpresence’s video publishing platform and HTML5 player technology into appMobi’s mobile app development toolkit.
appMobi developers can now leverage Thirdpresence video publishing platform and the video ad insertion capability to easily publish and monetize video in HTML5-based mobile apps.
Thirdpresence is a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News
– Alert)) video publishing solution enabling app developers, media companies and online video publishers to distribute their on-demand or live video content to any multimedia-capable device.
"Thirdpresence’s technology eliminates the pain of supporting video in mobile apps, and will allow our developers to create engaging apps with video content that work across all popular hardware and OS platforms,” said Sam Abadir, appMobi’s CTO, in a statement. “Considering that 40 percent of the apps being created by our developers are ‘media’ apps, we expect to see thousands of new apps using this technology within the next few months."
Video is one of the main growth drivers in mobile content; however, developers have struggled with the fragmentation of mobile device video formats.
“By combining appMobi’s HTML5 development tools with Thirdpresence’s video publishing platform and HTML5 player, we expect that appMobi developers can now significantly increase video revenues across HTML5 apps," said Markus Bäckström, co-founder and CEO of Thirdpresence, in a statement.
Thirdpresence platform supports a variety of mobile devices including Apple iPhone (News – Alert), iPad, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile -based phones, as well as older legacy phones.
In another related development in HTML5 industry, Adobe (News – Alert) announced the general release and availability of Adobe PhoneGap Build, a new service that allows developers and designers to build apps for mobile devices using standard Web technologies and then package them in the cloud.
