Box Unveils Box Embed for Enterprise Content Sharing

Box (NewsAlert) – which provides a content sharing platform for enterprises – has come up with a new way to share content online.

Through an HTML5-code embeddable tool, called Box Embed, developers can integrate Box accounts into third-party enterprise applications.

“We strongly believe that content is at the heart of any successful organization,” Mark Saldaña, Box Social Media manager, said in a recent blog post. “By centralizing content on Box, businesses all over the world can access it from anywhere – their laptop, mobile device or tablet – and remove the barriers that prevent workers from accessing critical information.”

In addition, 10 companies, such as Concur, DocuSign, Eloqua, FuzeBox, NetSuite (NewsAlert) and Zendesk, are partnering with Box on Box Embed.

The company also announced at the recent Boxworks 2012 conference, that there many new features found on Box. For example, Box has a new header. The header features new search functions, and users can access discussions, mentions and pending tasks, according to a blog post from Brandon Savage, group product manager at Box.

Also, relevant results appear as users type in the search bar. Navigation is easier. Tasks and pending messages appear in the header, as well. Users can also locate other employees at their company through Box. Co-workers are located by finding them in the sidebar. Users can also edit content in the preview page – including images, PowerPoint presentations and CAD files. Box Edit can be used, too, for Word, Excel or PowerPoint files.

Another new feature is for a user to mark that he/she “likes” a file – to note approval to a co-worker.

Box is also adding 100 partners to the OneCloud platform across the iOS and Android (NewsAlert) operating systems. These include areas such as electronic health records, mind-mapping and business intelligence.

“Content is critical to every application that businesses run on,” Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box, said in a recent statement.“By extending Box’s enterprise content and collaboration across today’s leading business applications, Box is transforming the way people and organizations access, share and manage their business information in the cloud. We’re making it incredibly simple for our partners and developers to leverage the power of Box from within their services, and to provide a central content layer for enterprise productivity.”

Box has 14 million users, including 140,000 businesses and 92 percent of the companies listed on the Fortune 500 list, the company said.
