HTML5 Startup Profits from Some Powerful Friends

You won’t get much argument from the top Internet companies in the world that HTML5 is here to stay. The programming language is simply too useful on far too many different platforms for it to really ever lose popularity.

Websites that you never would have thought would lean on HTML5, such as recipe sharing sites, are seeing the real benefit of the infrastructure.

That is probably why HTML5-based startups such as are getting some big time backup from companies like Mozilla (NewsAlert).

The Israeli-based recently got a venture capital funding round of $25 million from a selection of big name companies, including Mozilla, Telefonica (News Alert) Digital and SingTel Innov8.

The funding round will help the HTML5-based platform to get off the ground in a very big way. The application the company is putting together will allow users to access a host of applications they haven’t already loaded on their phones through the cloud, while also displaying the native versions of those apps that they already have installed.

While Android (NewsAlert) and iOS users may not see a huge boost from something like this, Mozilla has been talking about releasing its own Mobile OS for a couple of years now. The company recently hinted that would play a rather large part in getting applications onto phones running the Mozilla Mobile operating system.

London-based Telefonica Digital thinks could play a rather large part in making mobile applications that much better by bringing the power of the Web to mobile platforms.

Carlos Domingo, director of product development and innovation at Telefónica Digital, released a statement in which he said that’s “why Telefonica is committed to driving greater openness in mobile ecosystems, which will in turn spur innovation. The integration of into Firefox OS will add a rich and compelling content experience for customers."
