Ericom Software, a provider of applications access and desktop virtualization solutions, recently equipped the city of Panama City, Florida employees with remote, browser-based access to mission critical municipal and other hosted Windows apps from their Chromebooks, laptops and mobile devices.
Ericom AccessNow is claimed to be the first high performance HTML5 RDP Client, providing browser access to Windows applications and desktops both virtual and physical, running on Windows Terminal Services/RDS/VDI platforms, including Microsoft (News
– Alert) Hyper-V and other hypervisors. Using AccessNow, the city managed to effortlessly roll out Chromebooks and BYOD, and the HTML5 RDP Client also removed the need for end-users to deploy any additional software.
Richard Ferrick, network administrator for the City of Panama City, said in a statement, “My team is privileged with introducing the city to cloud computing and other technologies. Rolling out Chromebooks with AccessNow HTML5-based access presents a big asset to the city. We have been evaluating AccessNow on Chromebooks and other devices for remote access to various Windows-based apps and Google (News
– Alert) Apps for government, and just love it.”
For city officials, AccessNow simplified their objective to deliver easy and flexible remote access to official systems from any location. The Chromebook-AccessNow solution can also be easily administrated and managing it does not cost a fortune. The city’s administration staff, as well as department heads who are furnished with critical responsibilities, can now can attend meetings throughout the city, log in remotely and take care of business as if they’re sitting in the office.
