Up until now, specifics about the new HTML5 were scarce, but the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C (News – Alert)) has finally announced that specifications were complete. With a few more steps left to take, HTML5 offers simpler solutions with many new features.
One of the new features for the new HTML5 is the video tag (News – Alert). HTML5 has simplified the process of embedding a video or media of your choice. Rather than having rely on a third party plug-in like Silverlight or Flash, HTML5 allows you to use their built-in code, which makes it easier and reduces the risk of running into compatibility issues with third party plug-ins.
HTML5 video tag will only be supported by MP4, WebM and Ogg video formats for the time being. Using the DOM methods, properties and events, users will be able to customize and control their HTML5 video player functionality using javascript and javascript frameworks.
Just like the video tag, HTML5 will offer users a new canvas tag where the third party is also non-existent. The new canvas tag element will feature a resolution dependent bitmap that will allow developers to render visual graphics on the fly. It will also be beneficial for animators, who will be able to create animation, rich interfaces and games much easier than before.
HTML will also eliminate the worries users have about the element’s ID able to produce Semantic structure. It will feature a bigger selection of block level elements that will make codes more readable and maintainable by quickly creating Semantic structure.
Geolocation, which is normally reserved for mobile devices like Smartphone’s and tablets, will come equipped with HTML5. Another feature will be the implementation of application caches. The new application caches will work just like cookies, but unlike cookies, the application caches will be able to handle much larger files and will be able to store more information on a visitor’s computer.
Although HTML5 still has to finish going through a few more steps to become official, which may not be finalized until 2014, developers finally have a target to plan toward.
