Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects for everything from film, games and music to art, design and technology. Hundreds of products and innovations have surpassed Kickstarter goals in just one day, leveraging the platform as a major player in the startup space. 3D printing, the Instacube digital photo frame, smarter iPad covers and a government documentary project are all examples of success stories from Kickstarter.
A newcomer to Kickstarter is GoldFire Studios, which launched its Kickstarter campaign for CasinoRPG, a game that “wraps role-playing, tycoon and casino games into a Web-based, isometric MMORPG using the latest HTML5 technologies.” The use of HTML5, the latest revision of the HTML markup language that enables developers to create complex applications that could previously only be created for desktop applications, allows the game to be played synchronously across most modern devices without the need for downloads or plugins.

"We’ve faced many technical challenges working with such new technologies, but we’ve come a long way and are ready to show the world what the Web is capable of," says Luke Simkins, GoldFire Studios’ Chief Technology Officer.
James Simpson, GoldFire Studios CEO and founder, said, "We’ve barely begun to tap the possibilities of the Web as a legitimate gaming platform, the future of browser gaming is very exciting."
The game will enter beta testing shortly after the completion of the Kickstarter campaign. Backers of the campaign will be able to participate in private beta rounds before the public as well as receive physical and digital rewards.
"We want to make a good game great, and that doesn’t come cheap," said Simpson, "so we are turning to Kickstarter to get us to the finish line."
Other HTML5-related campaigns on Kickstarter include InDesign to HTML5, Open Source (News – Alert) Programmer’s Text Editor using Canvas and WebGL and Tough to Kill, a zombie survival “shoot ‘em up” arcade game. HTML5 has affected the gaming industry in a big way, offering a more fast, high-quality and animated experience. The amazing part about HTML5 is you can run the same game in any mobile operating system and environment that supports HTML5. There’s no extra plug-ins or third-party software to install. Many are convinced that this is the future of mobile gaming.
