HTML5 Code Changes Digital Publishing Landscape

Newspapers, magazines and even comic books using InDesign to lay out their pages have a new friend in Aquafadas, a Kobo digital publishing company. According to an article published on GoodReader, Aquafadas is among countless digital publishers in the market, but what makes the company stand out is its ability to work with industries already using InDesign for layout, “so that there is no need to recreate the content prior to publication in another format.”

Other notable strides in the digital publishing world include the increasing popularity of HTML5, a programming language that’s bringing the “biggest and baddest” of the technology world to the table for the development of HTML5 apps, according to a recent article posted on html5report.com.

One example is Quark’s latest update to its app studio that provides support for cloud-based and HTML5-based app developments for platforms a variety of devices, including iPhones, iPads and Androids.

Shaun Barriball, vice president of Quark’s mobile products department, notes that the purpose of App Studio is “to remove the complexity around creating and delivering the best app experiences while allowing content creators to employ their favorite design tools and to work within a cloud environment.”

3DIssue has also released a recent HTML5 product, Version 5, which gives users an HTML5 format for digital editions that is comparable to popular flash digital publications.

Paul McNulty, managing director for 3D Issue, said the company “wants to go beyond translating static print magazines into static electronic magazines.”

“3D Issue has been on the forefront of digital publishing since its inception, and we are pleased to bring our technology to our widest audience yet, allowing iPad and iPhone (NewsAlert) owners to access the dynamic, interactive content that HTLM5 digital magazines can offer,” said McNulty. “By using HTML5, we can provide all readers with a richer experience that truly realizes the promise of digital technology—with live links, embedded videos, and many more features.”
