Cinemacraft Uses Funding to Improve HTML5-Based Videogram Site

Cinemacraft is a Singapore-based provider of mobile media solutions and the creator of Videogram, a service which provides users with a paneled preview of online videos reminiscent to the layout of a comic book. Recently, the company received additional investment in a Series A funding round from 500 Startups, a U.S.-based venture capital firm, bringing the total raised in funding to $0.9 million.

As part of the 500 Startups Accelerator Program, Cinemacraft has moved to Silicon Valley and made significant progress with the HTML5-based Videogram site. The latest functionality added to the site allows users to start videos on whichever panel catches their interest, making it easier to skip over parts they may find boring.

Another new feature includes the ability to pin a particular frame to Pinterest under the "share" function. Users can also share the clip on other social networks or send it by e-mail.

Users have the option to upload a video directly in order to create a Videogram, or create one from an existing YouTube (NewsAlert) video. Currently, the maximum video length is two hours, while the maximum accepted file size is 250MB.

Future plans for Videogram include native mobile apps for iOS, Android (NewsAlert) and Windows Phone, which should all be available soon.

The 500 Startups Accelerator Program launched in October 2012 and aims to help out early stage start ups by offering $250,000 in funding and provides access to in-residence designers and mentors, platform-specific strategies for customer acquisition, and a dynamic and creative workspace in Silicon Valley. Located in Mountain View, California, the early stage seed fund and incubator program invests primarily in consumer and SMB Internet startups and related Web infrastructure services.

For example, back in September, 500 Startups invested in Curious Hat, a provider of interactive and mobile applications started by Luca Prasso and Erwan Maigret, both of whom have feature film experience working on DreamWorks Animation films, including the Shrek series.
