Free HTML5 Web publishing platform Wix recently released some figures that demonstrate the success of its new Wix App Market — specifically that Wix users have installed 1.5 million third-party Web apps since the app market’s launch in October. Of course, since the website builder boasts more than a million new users per month, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
The Wix App Market is supported by the release of Wix’s software development kit (SDK), which enables developers to create Web apps aimed at small business owners and entrepreneurs, which together make up about 80 percent of Wix’s global 30 million-strong user base. These apps make it easier for those in this segment to put marketing and social functions on their websites, while the Wix App Market makes it easy to access those functions.
Wix users have installed an average of 16,000 apps per day since the App Market’s launch, with 75 apps available in the market to date. These apps were hand-picked to provide added value for Wix users, each experiencing 7,000 installations every month. There are about 100 additional apps on their way, too.
“The benefit of the Wix App Market is two-fold. App developers profit from the exposure to our massive customer base and a constantly growing revenue stream, while Wix users get easy access to tools that empower them to harness the full potential of their web presence,” said Avishai Abrahami, CEO and co-founder of Wix, in a statement.
Wix is a do-it-yourself website publishing platform that aims to make it easy for users to create a unique, functional website without the need for coding knowledge or prior website building experience. The company experienced another major milestone back in July with the announcement that its users had created more than one million HTML5 websites in only three months.
In November, Wix further cemented its commitment toward its small business users by partnering with Shopify, enabling easy integration of the company’s ecommerce solution into HTML5 sites.
