Gone are the days when aspiring authors had to run pillar to post in order to make their works see the light of day. With technology coming to their help, authors no longer need the patronage of a big publishing house to get their works out to the public. In an effort to make self-published e-books visually more attractive, the e-publishing solution provider Web-e-Books has come up with a new HTML5-based image insertion solution that would allow authors and publishers to insert photos, graphs, charts, tables, and other illustrations within the text of books they seek to publish on Web-e-Books.
Entitled, ImageDrop, this cross-platform e-book image insertion solution is aimed at enhancing the visual quality of the otherwise highly narrative book presentations.
For example, Neil Killion, an Australian author, has recently utilized ImageDrop technology to insert 24 unique charts, tables, and other graphics into his new eBook called “The Life Cycles Revolution (News – Alert).”
Primarily using a standards-based HTML5 web architecture, Web-e-Books platform helps convert manuscripts into fully functional e-books ready-to-read on virtually any browser-based consumer device. With the help of other software components, the Web-e-Books present and distribute the eBooks for virtually all operating systems, including Windows, MAC, Android (News – Alert) and Linux. These single-format e-books are designed to run on PCs, laptops, tablets, and smart phones. Moreover, a common web-based application makes them compatible with e-readers like Kindle Fire and Color Nook
ImageDrop’s cross-platform e-book design approach allows graphics to appear clearly on virtually all screen sizes. The images remain distortion-free, even when readers change font sizes.
The technology also allows for the opening of the images on a second window through mouse click or screen tap. This allows readers to view images in virtually unlimited sizes and save the images for future viewing and printing. The technology proves particularly helpful with regard to delivering electronic key charts, forms, and tables.
By leveraging standards-based HTML5, the ImageDrop technology is expected to enable thousands of authors and publishers worldwide to distribute e-books with visually appealing graphic content. This is expected to help these authors better serve their readers in the growing creative, non-fiction, essay, journal, and memoir markets.
“Our goal has been to expand consumer choice by utilizing a common, web-based application standard for content distribution across all end-user devices. Why be limited to one screen or a walled-garden eco-system like Kindle when you may need to use a PC, tablet, or smartphone for different purposes? Now, we offer e-books with single-format text, plus dazzling image content on any device, at any time, and the same way online or offline,” Developer and Founder of Web-e-Books Rick Preti explained in a statement.
