HTML5 Report Week in Review

This past week was fairly light in terms of activity for the HTML5 space, but there were still stories of note.

First up, digital signage media player provider BrightSign stated that it plans to demonstrate its first-ever solid state, commercial 4K digital signage media player next month, at which time the company will also present new features for its BrightAuthor range of XD and HD players. Aside from bigger resolutions, release 3.8 of the BrightAuthor content management software also brings new HTML5 and IP streaming capabilities to the table.

In particular, the BrightSign XD player range will soon offer hardware-accelerated HTML5 rendering that will allow HTML5 applications to perform smoothly, with none of the stuttering common to Android (NewsAlert) devices and PCs that user software-based HTML rendering.

Next, MetaCommunications released a new component called Spark! as part of its Workgroups DaVinci collaboration solution. This new component is essentially the company’s official backing of HTML5-driven Web apps over native apps. It allows users to proofread and review documents pertaining to designs from practically any device thanks to its HTML5 base. In an increasingly diverse world of mobile devices, HTML5 is the best way for MetaCommunications to provide cross-platform collaboration.

Finally this week, audio and video streaming services provider StreamGuys launched a new HTML5 player meant specifically to help broadcasters and streaming services attract listeners. Indeed, the player is able to support all popular mobile devices, allowing such customers to provide an interactive multimedia experience to the broadest possible range of users. As such, the offering has already picked up its first customer, Whisperings Solo Piano Radio.

The HTML5 player doesn’t require any plug-ins or special programs for listeners to access the free Whisperings stream. It also offers the ability to synchronize live audio streams, as well as display song titles and artist names — all while providing a user-friendly, iTunes-like interface.

That’s all for this week, but you can still check out the HTML5 Report for more news in the space.
