Workday Replaces Flash and Retools for HTML5

Workday, a leader in enterprise-class, Software-as-Service (SaaS) for HR, Finance and Technology, has taken on the endeavor to accommodate the numerous different devices and systems accessing tools by converting from Flash to HTML5.

Joe Korngiebel, vice president of user experience at Workday stated, “While our user experience has been a differentiator for us, it was time to grow and improve given the pace of technological change today. By taking cues from the consumer Internet, mobile technologies, and our customers, we have completely redesigned our browser-based Workday applications.”

CTO for Workday Annrai O’Toole stated, “It’s been a pretty massive journey from Flash to HTML5 but the user experience it offers is compelling and so we put a lot of effort in making the switch and simplifying the user experience.”

Due to customer feedback, 65 new features were included within the 240 updates of Workday 21, pushing the entire platform to a single code line for both development and production, in an effort to make improvements more quickly.

O’Toole stated,  “We were conscious of focusing on bringing in people who haven’t grown up with old school systems so we wouldn’t get stuck in the old ways of thinking. Customers will be able to look at stuff in preview and see how it would work for them and then decide if they would to push it into their own production environment.”

Workday’s other changes include, redesign of its service, offering a clearer, simpler layout by including more white space and consolidating page view to show more information on a single page. Included in the new application is the ability to access performance review documents and data on mobile devices.

O’Toole concluded, “Customers will be able to look at stuff in preview and see how it would work for them and then decide if they would to push it into their own production environment.”
