Discretix and Opera Software Form Strategic Partnership

Discretix (NewsAlert) and Opera Software announced a strategic partnership to bring together their services to create the ultimate secure OTT HD content services for connected televisions.

Discretix is a service dedicated to “delivering innovative security solutions to the complex and ever changing embedded markets.” With this type of expertise on board the team has been able to provide and develop chipsets and device vendors with complete security platforms that have been tested to be easily integrated, field proven and future-proof.

Meanwhile, Opera Software (NewsAlert) has enabled more than 350 million Internet consumers to discover and connect with the “content and services that matter most to them, no matter what device, network or location.” They have created their own browser, mediaworks program, designed for advertising executives, and operator solutions that can be used to bring data into the cloud.

Now together, the companies will work on a fully tested solution that will benefit televisions and Set-Top-Box (NewsAlert) (STB) OEMs by expediting their path to market. “Having identified content protection as a critical requirement for our STB and TV OEMs, it is important to work with partners like Discretix who can help bring a fully integrated solution to market,” said Aneesh Rajaram, senior vice president for TV & Devices, Opera Software. “With a field-proven and impressive product portfolio, Discretix’ contribution is essential to ensure robust and rapidly deployable solutions.”

Together the companies will combine portfolios to include the latest versions of Microsoft (News Alert) PlayReady, a solution that ensures robust security. They will also include premium HD video, support for HTML5 and MPEG-DASH multimedia, and a variety of content and applications.

Many of the leading application developers and service providers – YouTube (NewsAlert) among them – are utilizing HTML5 and mandate content protection,” said Yossi Hermush, vice president of marketing, Content Protection, Discretix. “Our collaboration with Opera’s leading browser platform will assist OEMs to be ready faster, with a fully integrated solution supporting even the most advanced services.”

No word yet on when the services will become available. But it’s expected that the release will be available on both company websites at the same time.
