dtSearch’s HTML5 Update Enables Instant Publication of Searchable Data

Web developers know search functionality on websites can feel like trying to find a needle in a haystack. One of the reasons Google (News Alert) trounced the other search engines after its launch in 1998 is because their algorithms made search functionality feel more intuitive.

Yet HTML5 functionality holds some changes for web developers as it begins to roll out, particularly regarding forms. In anticipation, an updated version of dtSearch’s Web with Spider product can be used with the included HTML5 templates to instantly publish searchable data. dtSearch is a supplier of document filters and general enterprise and developer text retrieval software.

The company’s dtSearch Web with Spider, version 7.75, reportedly requires no programming to enable searching of static and dynamic online data. The same HTML5 templates will work with the company’s dtSearch Publish for instant publication of data to portable media.

The update reportedly expands dtSearch’s proprietary document filters, which parsing, indexing, searching and display with highlighted hits. The product covers integrated image and text support in HTML, XML/XSL, PDF, ASP.NET (News Alert), PHP, SharePoint and other formats. Other data formats supported include Access, XBASE and CSV. The company says its dtSearch Engine APIs support SQL-type data along with the full-text of BLOB data.

For MS Office users, supported formats include browser-ready image and text support in Word (RTF/DOC/DOCX), PowerPoint (PPT/PPTX), Excel (XLS/XLSX), Access (MDB/ACCDB) and OneNote (ONE). PDF support includes integrated image and text support as well as OpenOffice, RAR, ZIP and GZIP/TAR.

The product has won approval from several industry reviewers, including ComputorEdge Magazine, which wrote, “How would you like a program that can index a million words in a host of file formats … then find any word or phrase you need in any indexed file — and show you the entire text of that file, regardless of format — so close to instantly only an android would appreciate the difference? The program is dtSearch … Fast, clean, efficient, accurate, complete.”
