Android Operating System May Soon See Improvements with Project Hera

A likely forthcoming offering for Android, called Hera, may give users more multi-tasking options than what is now offered with Google’s (News Alert) well-known operating system.

The name “Hera” appears to be based on Hera, who was the ancient Greek goddess of marriage. That may be fitting, because as it is now being described, Hera will partner uses of Android (NewsAlert), Chrome and Google Search, which would be able to work seamlessly.

It is based on HTML5. Also, it can be used through the web instead of using app interfaces, AndroidPit reported.

Hera follows such other major Google innovations as Honeycomb for Android 3.0 – which provided some early multi-tasking improvements. Another key innovation was Project Butter in Android 4.1 – which provided a quicker operating system.  And a third major improvement was Svelte in Android 4.4 (Kitkat) – which also improves the speed of the operating system.

The forthcoming Hera will improve multi-tasking far more than Honeycomb, based on early reports.

In addition, Hera may lead to improvements to Android Runtime (ART), too. ART was first found in Android 4.4, which led to 100 percent faster speeds. Even faster ART speeds are likely to be offered in the future operating systems of Android 4.5 or Android 5.0.

It is possible Hera will be shown, or more details on it explained, during the upcoming 7th annual Google I/O. This will be a time for developers to meet on June 25 and 26 at the Moscone Center West, the prominent convention center, in San Francisco. Events from Google I/O will also likely be streamed. Until then, there may not be much in the way of formal announcements about Hera. Even so, if Google wants to keep things quiet for a longer period than June, details on Hera may remain largely in the form of speculation.
