DevCon5 to Explore Valuable Node.js Framework Techniques

HTML5 event includes sessions on new developer langauge

Norwalk, CT – July 7, 2014TMC (NewsAlert) and Crossfire Media today announced that DevCon5 HTML5 & Mobile App Developer Conference will feature several sessions on Node.js—a framework that is quickly building interest and popularity throughout the Web development industry. DevCon5, held July 9-10, 2014, at the Kimmel Center at New York University in New York City, will feature leading experts to explore the latest Node.js techniques, providing attendees the tools they need to learn the language and demonstrate their expertise to the marketplace.

“More and more employers are requiring developers to be skilled in Node.js, as the platform is significantly simplifying the creation of fast, scalable network applications. While the framework isn’t as well-established as other Web languages, expertise in Node is proving to be very valuable,” said Carl Ford, CEO, Crossfire Media, executive director of content, DevCon5.

The full DevCon5 agenda includes sessions on mobile development, hybrid application frameworks, animations, video and more. Content devoted specifically to Node includes:

  • Bridging the Gap of the Module Wars: RequireJS is for “client side” developers and browserify is for “node developers.” Bower is for “client side” developers and npm is for “node developers.” Or so the popular tweets and blog posts would make you think. Tear down these walls and learn how the two sides aren’t that different after all. Learn to use bower dependencies in your browserify project, and npm dependencies in your RequireJS project. We can stand on the shoulders of both giants to build awesome software for the browser.
  • Project Avatar: Developing JavaScript Services with Node on the JVM: Project Avatar is an open source project that brings together the best of the Java Virtual Machine, JavaScript, Java Enterprise Edition and the Node programming model to build scalable server-side JavaScript applications that can leverage the maturity of the Java ecosystem. Learn the benefits of running Node applications on the Java Virtual Machine, and see how to rapidly create JavaScript applications using a productive JavaScript services-centric programming model. See how to use your favorite client-side JavaScript framework, or use Avatars client-side framework, to call Avatar services using REST, Server Sent Events and WebSockets.
  • Node.js Micro-Services: The Water is Fine, Jump In!: The session chronicles a small but determined team in IBM (News Alert) Rational that took an opportunity or excuse of the new cloud-based development tools to ditch the tried and well-worn path of Enterprise JEE and push instead for Node.js micro-services. You will learn how we arrived at a stack consisting of Node.js, express.js, Dust.js, jQuery, Require.js and Bootstrap, and tips on what worked, and what to avoid. This session will encourage others still sitting on the fence to give Node.js a try in production. IBM is decidedly not a crazy startup: if we can do it, you can too. The water is fine, jump in!
