DevCon5 Expands Conference Programming to Address WebRTC

HTML5 event to discuss key browser-to-browser trends in July

Norwalk, CT—July 8, 2014—Today TMC and Crossfire Media announced the addition of new Web-Based Real-Time Communications (WebRTC) conference tracks to the DevCon5 HTML5 & Mobile App Developer Conference, held July 9-10, 2014, at The Kimmel Center at New York University in New York City. The event will discuss the necessary information and tools needed for developers to exploit the capabilities of HTML5 technology and stay up-to-date on industry issues, opportunities and trends.

In addition to the three new WebRTC tracks, the DevCon5 agenda will include sessions focused on user-experience design and security, gaming, animation tools and technologies, and more.

DevCon5 WebRTC sessions include:

  • Real-Time Communications in HTML5 and Native Mobile Applications using WebRTC: WebRTC is revolutionizing the telecoms world by making it easy for HTML5 and mobile application developers to add real-time communication capabilities to their applications. The ease of integration of WebRTC makes communication context based. It becomes part of the application itself instead of a specific external activity. In this session, Peter Dunkley, technical director at Acision (NewsAlert) and John Riordan, CTO of OnSIP, will explain what WebRTC is and discuss use cases for WebRTC, what developers should consider in terms of infrastructure when using WebRTC, components and technologies that are available to developers and demonstrate the power of WebRTC using HTML5 and native mobile example applications.
  • Challenges and Best Practices in Building RTC Web Applications: In this session, Sumit Amar, director of engineering at Electronic Arts, digs deeper into challenges and best practices in building out WebRTC applications to allow collaborative peer-to-peer media communications. Audio and video conferencing will be demonstrated with optimized code examples. Panelists will discuss the future of WebRTC and its potential in ubiquity. Microsoft’s (News Alert) CURTCWeb Customization, Ubiquitous RTC over Web will be discussed in detail with examples. This talk will also share downloadable source codes for audio and video conferencing application written entirely without using any plugins.
  • DevCon5 will also feature a WebRTC-focused keynote by Dr. Luis Lopez, associated professor at Rey Juan Carlos University and Electronic Arts’ Amar.

“The gaming, HTML5 and WebRTC worlds have begun to overlap, and it is important for players within the marketplace to be at the forefront of these emerging technologies,” said Carl Ford (NewsAlert), CEO, Crossfire Media, executive director of content DevCon5. “By introducing these WebRTC tracks into DevCon5’s programming, we showing the impact of interactive and responsive design in a true multimedia environment.”

DevCon5 is supported by Diamond Sponsors Basho and IBM; Platinum Sponsor Blackberry; Gold Sponsors, OnSIP and TokBox; and Silver Sponsor eProcessing Network.
