Toshiba Releases New Starter Kits

Toshiba (News Alert) has recently announced its brand-new release of starter kits for the development of web applications. The RBTZ5000-2MA-A1 and RBTZ5000-6MA-A1 will both use the TZ5000 Application Processor (NewsAlert) Lite (ApP Lite), and are set to begin shipping in October of this year.

The new starter kits will provide various drivers for rich Internet applications using HTML5, and can introduce embedded development environments for the Internet of Things, as well as streaming media and content-rich consumer devices. The video playback driver uses wireless LAN and HDMI output, with the RBTZ5000-2MA-A1 on the Ubuntu (NewsAlert) Linux platform and RBTZ5000-6MA-Aa on the Android 4.4 platform.  Both kits have dual-core processors with Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and an embedded baseband engine for Wi-Fi connections too. They also both have NAND flash memory, and are baseband-engine compliant with next-generation high-speed wireless LAN.

The two kits differ in a few ways. The RBTZ5000-2MA-A1 includes a general-use board with expanded I/O for different peripherals like microphones or cameras. The RBTZ5000-6MA-A1 is developed for audio transmission, video and other media streaming, built with a stick-type board. Similarly, however, the two kits work with reduced numbers of parts; this decreased footprint, then, makes them ideal for small-form-factor designs.

"Development of varied embedded development environments requires easier debugging for improved performance and power management," said Nalini Ranjan, senior business development manager of the Logic LSI Business Unit at Toshiba, in a recent statement. "With these starter kits, Toshiba has created a solution that accommodates these requirements while allowing customers to quickly and easily implement the TZ5000 processors for high-demand multimedia applications, using their OS of choice."

Toshiba designs and manufactures high-quality flash memory-based storage solutions, solid state drives (SSDs), hard disk drives (HDDs), and various other technology products that allow customers to build high-quality designs.
